Our Erg Chegaga 4×4 tours are designed for those seeking a rugged, off-road adventure into the wild heart of the Sahara

Day 1 : Agadir – Foum Zguid

Leaving the Atlantic coast behind, you depart from Agadir in a private 4×4 vehicle and head south toward the Anti-Atlas Mountains. The route passes through changing landscapes of rocky hills, dry valleys, and traditional Berber villages where daily life remains closely connected to the land. As you progress inland, traffic fades and the scenery becomes increasingly open and arid, offering a first taste of desert isolation. Stops along the way allow time to appreciate panoramic viewpoints and photograph remote mountain scenery. By afternoon, you arrive in Foum Zguid, a small desert town known as the gateway to the Sahara. Here, you can relax at a comfortable desert lodge and prepare for the off-road adventure awaiting you the next day.

Day 2 : Foum Zguid – Erg Chigaga (Lake Iriki Off-Road Crossing)

Today is the highlight of the expedition. After breakfast, you leave paved roads behind and enter the true Sahara, beginning the legendary off-road crossing of Lake Iriki. This immense dry lake stretches endlessly toward the horizon, creating a surreal and silent landscape that feels completely untouched. Driving across ancient caravan routes and desert tracks, your local guide shares stories of nomadic life, desert survival, navigation techniques, and wildlife adapted to extreme conditions. The sense of freedom and scale is unforgettable. In the afternoon, the massive dunes of Erg Chigaga rise dramatically from the flat desert floor. Upon arrival at the luxury desert camp, enjoy time to walk the dunes, relax, or climb to a viewpoint for sunset. As night falls, savor a traditional dinner under the stars and enjoy a peaceful overnight stay in a private luxury tent surrounded by total desert silence.

Day 3 : Erg Chigaga – Taroudant

Wake early to witness the sunrise over the dunes, when soft light transforms the desert into waves of gold and shadow. After breakfast at the camp, you leave Erg Chigaga and drive north through remote desert plains and hidden valleys shaped by wind and time. Along the route, your guide continues to share insights into desert life, nomadic traditions, and the history of ancient Saharan routes. Gradually, the landscape becomes greener as you approach the Souss region. By late afternoon, you arrive in Taroudant, a charming walled city often referred to as “Little Marrakech.” The evening is free to relax or enjoy a walk near the ramparts before overnight in a traditional riad inside the city walls.

Day 4 : Taroudant – Agadir

After breakfast, the return journey begins through the fertile Souss Valley, a striking contrast to the desert landscapes of previous days. Palm groves, farms, and small villages line the route, offering a final glimpse of rural Moroccan life. This scenic drive provides time to reflect on the adventure—crossing Lake Iriki, navigating off-road Saharan tracks, and experiencing the vast silence of the desert. Arrival back in Agadir marks the end of your 4×4 Sahara expedition, leaving you with lasting memories of Morocco’s wild south and its nomadic heritage.
